“TIACA and Air Cargo Belgium Launch Sustainability Program”
PRESS RELEASE
The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) and Air Cargo Belgium recently launched the first global TIACA BlueSky airport community sponsored by Brussels Airport. The TIACA BlueSky program, introduced in 2022, is the only program in the air cargo and logistics industry that offers individual companies an independent assessment of their sustainability credentials.
Air Cargo Belgium and Brussels Airport Company have established a sponsorship fund to support up to 15 members with their BlueSky assessment by sharing their fees. This collaboration marks the formation of the first BlueSky community. Six pioneering companies participated in a kickoff workshop led by Celine Hourcade, Founder of Change Horizon. Participants from Aviapartner, dnata, EFL Global, Ninatrans, Swissport, and WFS learned about sustainability insights, the benefits and principles of BlueSky, and prepared for the assessment and verification process.
Aligned with TIACA’s Air Cargo Industry Sustainability Roadmap, the BlueSky assessment covers key priorities for air cargo companies, including decarbonization, waste elimination, biodiversity protection, support for local economies and communities, improvement of social well-being, efficiencies, profitability, employee development, and partnership building.
Future participants will join to provide a broader view of the airport community’s sustainability journey. The collective results will guide Brussels Airport and Air Cargo Belgium on additional sustainability project initiatives.
Steven Polmans, TIACA Chair, emphasized the importance of industry collaboration in creating a sustainable future through the BlueSky Community initiative. Geert Aerts, Chief Cargo & Real Estate Officer at Brussels Airport Company, highlighted their commitment to sustainability by supporting the TIACA BlueSky program. Freek De Witte, Director of Air Cargo Belgium, expressed the significance of the community’s participation in the BlueSky program as a step towards collaborative progress on a global scale.
