Swissport Expands Forwarder Handling in German Market
Swissport is expanding its service offerings in the German cargo market with the launch of forwarder handling. Effective 15 January 2024, Swissport has become the sole cargo handling agent for Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in partnership with JAS, following a coordinated implementation for a smooth transition.
Having successfully offered forwarder handling services in Austria since 2010 and 2016 in Vienna and Graz, respectively, Swissport has now integrated this service into its global portfolio due to high demand and positive market feedback. This move aims to enhance customer value while streamlining logistics processes and reducing costs by eliminating third-party involvement.
Actively engaging with cargo forwarders to drive new business opportunities, Swissport’s expanded services align with the company’s cargo strategy, complementing its existing forwarder and airline handling services. This development allows Swissport to provide comprehensive and integrated solutions leveraging its extensive warehouse network.
In a statement, Matthias Frey, Vice President Global Airfreight Operations at JAS Worldwide, expressed confidence in Swissport’s ability to deliver excellence in cargo handling, citing their track record in the Pharma sector. Swissport’s investment in optimizing its cargo service portfolio, including venturing into forwarder handling, underscores the company’s commitment to serving the broader logistics community.
As part of its digitalization efforts, Swissport continues to enhance its air cargo business with innovative tools and technologies such as mobile devices, weighing systems, AI support tools, cargo kiosks, and Bluetooth ULD tracking. These advancements enable Swissport to efficiently process air freight while maintaining competitive service standards.
Overall, Swissport’s expansion into forwarder handling and ongoing digitalization efforts demonstrate its commitment to offering comprehensive, efficient, and technologically advanced cargo solutions for its customers.
