“Ryder opens massive distribution center for Lexmark in Indiana”

Ryder has recently inaugurated a massive 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Jeffersonville, Indiana for Lexmark International, a leading printer and imaging technology manufacturer. This new facility aims to streamline Lexmark’s supply chain, enhance shipping times, and offer cost savings for deliveries.

Norm Brouillette, the senior vice president of supply chain for Ryder, emphasized the importance of time-critical operations for Lexmark and the need to focus on efficient equipment handling and transit times to remain competitive. Founded in 1991, Lexmark is a privately held company specializing in manufacturing laser printers and imaging products, as well as developing cloud-enabled imaging and Internet of Things technologies.

With manufacturing facilities in Boulder, Colorado, and Juarez, Mexico, as well as a sales office in Mexico City, Lexmark serves customers in over 170 countries, including notable clients like eBay, Panasonic Corp., and Fujitsu Ltd. The decision to establish the distribution center in Jeffersonville was based on its strategic access to major road, rail, river, and air transportation options.

Ryder, a Miami-based company listed on the NYSE (NYSE: R), provides leasing, fleet management, transportation, and supply chain solutions. The Jeffersonville location offers proximity to Interstate 65, just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky, and is situated within 5 miles of the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville, serviced by CSX and Norfolk Southern railways.

Through a thorough network analysis considering various factors such as markets served, shipping volumes, transport costs, and labor market conditions, Ryder identified Jeffersonville as the ideal location to reduce outbound shipping costs, improve transit times, and enhance shipping flexibility. Ryder has been collaborating with Lexmark on transportation management solutions since 2009, facilitating cross-border operations between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Billy Spears, the senior vice president and chief product delivery officer for Lexmark, acknowledged Ryder’s role in providing the necessary technology, solutions, and expertise to navigate the evolving supply chain landscape. This partnership highlights the commitment of both companies to stay ahead of industry trends and deliver exceptional service to customers.
