“Maritime Transport Makes Major Order for Zero Emission Trucks”
Maritime Transport, the UK’s top provider of integrated road and rail freight logistics, has made a major purchase of 18 battery-electric, 42-tonne tractor units. This is the first order of 48 zero-emission trucks, including battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, to be deployed across its network as part of the Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) initiative.
These trucks, supplied by Scania, Renault Trucks, and DAF, will be integrated into Maritime’s fleet as part of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium led by Voltempo. This consortium, funded by the Department for Transport and Innovate UK, aims to support the freight sector in reducing emissions and moving towards Net Zero. The trucks are set to arrive from late 2024 to early 2025, with electric charging stations to be installed at 41 locations across Maritime’s network.
CEO Tom Williams states that this investment demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainability and its active participation in initiatives like ZEHID. It is expected that these vehicles will contribute significantly to providing sustainable and efficient services to customers. Group CEO of Voltempo, Michael Boxwell, praises Maritime for their order of electric HGVs and their commitment to transforming freight logistics. Managing Director of Scania UK, Chris Newitt, views this as a landmark moment in the UK’s transition to a zero-emission HGV future. DAF Trucks Limited and Renault Truck Commercials express their excitement to partner with Maritime and be part of this initiative towards sustainable freight transport.
