Maersk Opens New Warehouse in Sri Lanka to Strengthen Operations and Supply Chain Solutions
Colombo: A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has officially opened a state-of-the-art warehouse in Wattala, Sri Lanka, covering an impressive 100,000 sq. ft. The inauguration ceremony was attended by key leaders such as Vikash Agarwal, Managing Director of Maersk South Asia, Biju Ravi, Head of Maersk Sri Lanka, and Dr Parakrama Dissanayake, Deputy Chairman & Managing Director of Aitken Spence PLC. This new facility underscores Maersk’s dedication to providing seamless supply chain solutions and offers a strategic advantage to global customers and local suppliers operating in the retail and lifestyle sector.

Situated in Wattala, just 11 km away from the seaport, Maersk’s new warehouse capitalizes on Sri Lanka’s strategic geographical location as a crucial intersection for trade routes linking Asia, Africa, and Europe. With a flourishing trade sector and government initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure and business facilitation, Sri Lanka sets the stage for Maersk to bolster its presence in this key market.
The 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse offers export consolidation and 3PL services, with 50,000 sq. ft. dedicated to each segment. Providing comprehensive supply chain solutions, including storage, inventory management, and distribution, Maersk’s new facility caters to both global and local clientele. The 3PL services enable suppliers to efficiently store their goods and swiftly move them to consolidation points without delays. Maersk’s adjacent empty yard facilitates seamless container movement to the consolidation point and subsequently to the port, enabling swift operations to serve the Colombo market within a four-hour timeframe.
In addition, the warehouse incorporates environmentally sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, and compatibility for solar modules, ensuring eco-friendly operations.
