“Maastricht Aachen Airport to Welcome New Malaysia Airlines Cargo Service”
Malaysia Airlines (MH) has selected Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) in the Netherlands as its newest destination for a weekly full freighter cargo service. The first inbound flight from Kuala Lumpur is expected to arrive in early April.
The scheduled weekly flights will be operated by the fuel-efficient and quieter MH Airbus A330F, making MST only the second airport in Europe that MH serves, after Schiphol Amsterdam Airport (AMS).
“This is a significant opportunity for MST, especially since Royal Schiphol Group (RSG) acquired a 40% stake in the airport last year, leading to a steady growth in operations,” said Jonas Van Stekelenburg, CEO of MST.
The partnership with AMS, the new runway, and the efficiency of operations at MST have made it an attractive option for MH to transport cargo to and from Europe.
RSG’s investment in MST last year, along with the province of Limburg’s ownership of the remaining 60%, has led to significant investments in infrastructure improvements. The airport has already invested EUR30 million in a new runway and is currently working on further upgrades totaling more than EUR40 million.
MH is the second airline to confirm business with MST in 2024, following Royal Jordanian Airlines which resumed operations after upgrading their air fleet earlier in the year.
