Logistics sector embracing AI with major impact expected
The logistics industry is beginning to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, with a majority of companies anticipating a significant impact from the technology in the future. A survey conducted by booking and rate platform Freightos revealed that 14% of companies are either already using (7%) or testing (7%) AI solutions.
Furthermore, the survey showed that 96% of respondents believe they will incorporate AI in their operations in the future. The majority of these companies expect to utilize AI for pricing (64%) and customer service (56%) automation. Other anticipated uses include operations (51%), sales functions (35%), and software engineering (24%).
According to Freightos’ chief marketing officer Eytan Buchman, the survey results make it clear that AI is not just a trendy buzzword in the logistics industry. While 96% of respondents foresee the impact of AI, only a small percentage (7%) are currently using the technology, with an additional 7% testing it out.
The survey also addressed the topic of potential job cuts due to AI implementation, with 53% expecting a slight reduction in headcount and 31% predicting a significant decrease. The survey encompassed responses from 55 individuals representing various sectors within the logistics industry, including beneficial cargo owners, forwarders, carriers, and other logistics professionals.
