Landstar System Bolsters Executive Team
Freight broker Landstar System has announced the addition of two new executives to its team, with both roles being filled internally.
Matt Dannegger has been appointed as the company’s chief field sales officer, responsible for overseeing the recruitment and management of independent sales agents. With over 16 years of experience at Landstar, Dannegger previously served as the senior executive vice president of agent field sales.
Jim Applegate has taken on the role of Landstar’s chief corporate sales, strategy, and specialized freight officer. In addition to managing business development, Applegate will also oversee corporate sales and strategy. He joined the company in 2009 and most recently led business intelligence and strategy.
Speaking about the appointments, Landstar President and CEO Frank Lonegro stated, “The freight transportation industry has become increasingly complex, as have the needs of Landstar’s independent agents and customers.”
Lonegro himself took over as CEO on Feb. 2, following the retirement of Jim Gattoni, who had spent 30 years with the company, including a decade as CEO. Prior to joining Landstar, Lonegro served as the chief financial officer at Beacon, a roofing and building supply company, and had a 20-year career in the transportation industry at CSX.
Lonegro expressed his confidence in the new executives, stating, “Together, Matt and Jim will lead the sales team as we align the organization for future growth and success.” He highlighted their complementary capabilities and expressed excitement for their leadership of the sales efforts moving forward.
Landstar handled over 2 million loads hauled by truck annually and generated $5.3 billion in revenue last year. The company had a record year in 2022 with $7.4 billion in revenue.
