“Insetting Light: Forto Introduces Low-Cost Sustainable Shipping Option”

PRESS RELEASE

Insetting Light, a new sustainability product launched by Forto, is aimed at reducing freight emissions across all transport lanes, modes, and legs in a cost-effective manner. This initiative promotes the use of alternative fuels such as biofuel and sustainable aviation fuel, as well as renewable energy sources to mitigate the climate impact of shipments.

Forto, Europe’s leading digital freight forwarder, announced the introduction of Insetting Light on 15th April 2024 in Berlin. This low-priced sustainability product allows customers to reduce their emissions without disrupting their operations or incurring high costs. Insetting Light is available for all types of transportation – sea, air, and rail – and includes pre- and on-carriage services.

Utilizing biofuels or renewable electricity instead of traditional fossil fuels, Insetting Light offers emission reductions of 5% for ocean freight, 2% for air transport, and 50% for rail shipments. Additionally, the product includes a portion of Forto’s Ocean Plastic Prevention Product to further enhance its environmental impact.

As an alternative to offsetting, Insetting Light provides customers with an easy and cost-effective way to reduce emissions at the source within the logistics industry. With a commitment to Science Based Targets, Forto aims to encourage its customers to embrace sustainability practices and support the transition to sustainable fuels and renewable energy sources.

“Insetting Light makes emission reduction accessible and affordable for all transport modes, aligning with our goal to reduce global CO2e emissions in the transportation sector,” stated Achim Juechter, Director of Sustainability at Forto. Companies like Interpneu have already recognized the benefits of this initiative, with Head of Product Group Management Commercial, Robin Brucke, expressing pride in reducing emissions from their transportation operations and contributing to cleaner oceans through the Ocean Plastic Prevention program.

Insetting Light represents a significant step towards achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement and industry goals to reduce sea freight emissions by 40% by 2030. This collective effort by Forto and its customers aims to drive environmental progress and create a more sustainable future for the logistics industry.
