“HMM Signs MoU with SIPG for Clean Marine Fuel Supply in Shanghai Port”
PRESS RELEASE
Seoul, 03 April 2024: – HMM and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for supply cooperation of Clean Marine fuel. This agreement focuses on bunkering methanol and LNG at Shanghai Port, as well as supporting carbon reduction goals, promoting global shipping new energy cooperation, and aiding in shipping energy transformation and sustainable development.
HMM is dedicated to achieving a Net-Zero emissions target for the entire business by 2050. To reach this goal, establishing port bunkering infrastructure for clean marine fuel is crucial. The company is actively expanding its sustainable eco supply chain networks at Shanghai Port and other key ports like Singapore and Busan. HMM has also secured contracts for nine 9,000TEU vessels powered by methanol and plans to have two 7,700TEU LNG-powered vessels in operation by the end of the year.
SIPG is at the forefront of promoting green and ecological ports. Since 2022, they have offered bonded LNG bunkering services for numerous shipping companies globally. All preparations for green methanol bunkering at Shanghai Port are now complete.
“Through our collaboration with SIPG, we have expanded our green fuel supply chain in China, following initiatives in Korea and Singapore. We are committed to exploring various efforts to advance towards a green future,” stated an HMM official.
