Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Tops Pre-Pandemic Levels
PRESS RELEASE
Osnabrueck, May 14, 2024. Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has successfully concluded the past year despite challenging market conditions. The company reported stable order volumes of around 20 million shipments, a significant achievement in a market where many experienced declines. Hellmann was able to expand its market position in 2023, particularly in the Airfreight and Seafreight product areas. The company also saw international growth in its Contract Logistics division, acquiring new customers and establishing warehouses in the US, Germany, India, and Singapore. Despite a decrease in total sales to EUR 3.5 billion (from EUR 5.0 billion in 2022) due to the normalization of freight rates post-pandemic, Hellmann achieved a solid result in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Equity was strengthened by 4.4% to EUR 405 million, and the equity ratio increased from 28% to 35%.
In 2023, Hellmann executed strategic measures for sustainable international growth, including investments in IT infrastructure and digitalization. The company also established a new country organization in Ireland and completed strategic acquisitions in Italy, Slovakia, and the Baltic States.
Reiner Heiken, CEO of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, expressed confidence in the company’s performance in a challenging market, highlighting their ability to maintain market share and adaptability. He announced that Jens Drewes, who joined the company in April, will take over as CEO on June 1. Drewes looks forward to building on the foundation set by Heiken and aims to further develop the family business and expand their market position.
Martin Eberle, Chief Financial Officer of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, emphasized the company’s improved financial position, enabling continued investments in strategic and technological developments. The focus will be on digitalization, innovation with a focus on environmental sustainability, and investing in their global workforce of over 12,000 employees.
