“GXO Logistics to Close Memphis Facility, Lay Off 211 Workers”
Contract logistics provider GXO Logistics has announced its plans to close a distribution facility in Memphis, Tennessee, resulting in the layoff of 211 employees. The layoffs will commence on March 6 and the facility will cease operations by April 27, as per a filing with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The decision to close the Memphis facility, located at 4795 Imagination Drive, was attributed to the loss of a contract customer. This particular facility is known as the Disney Distribution Center. GXO, based in Greenwich, Connecticut, stated that impacted employees will have the opportunity to apply for open positions and transfer to nearby GXO sites serving other customers.
Over the past year, GXO has laid off more than 300 workers and shut down operations at several locations due to losing contract customers, including logistics centers in Ohio, Texas, and Maryland. As one of the world’s largest contract logistics providers, GXO employs over 130,000 people globally across 27 countries and operates more than 970 warehouses.
