Glyn Hughes tackles new air cargo challenges
Following his departure from the IATA, Glyn Hughes has taken on a new role as director general of air cargo supply chain group TIACA. Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, Hughes remains focused on navigating a new career path within the air-freight industry.
Having spent 30 years with the IATA, Hughes felt it was time for a change. He recognized the evolving landscape of the industry and saw the opportunity to bring a fresh perspective to TIACA. The voluntary redundancy program at IATA provided him with the perfect opportunity to explore new challenges.
Hughes, known for his deep industry knowledge and sense of humor, is excited about the transition to TIACA. He looks forward to being an audience member rather than the man on stage, as he had been at IATA’s annual World Cargo Symposium. Reflecting on his early days in the industry, Hughes credits individuals like Ray Corsan and Des Vertannes for inspiring his passion for air cargo.
At TIACA, Hughes hopes to leverage his experience and leadership style to drive the organization forward. He acknowledges the differences between IATA and TIACA, emphasizing that TIACA’s unique focus on the entire supply chain allows for a more streamlined approach to advocacy and decision-making.
With the ongoing crisis in aviation due to the pandemic and the upcoming global vaccines airlift, TIACA’s strategic priorities are clear. Hughes emphasizes the industry’s resilience and adaptability, highlighting the crucial role air cargo plays in moving vital supplies during times of crisis.
As the public spotlight shines on the airfreight industry amid the vaccine distribution efforts, Hughes remains optimistic about the future of air cargo. He believes that the industry’s dedication and unwavering commitment to serving global needs will continue to drive progress and innovation. By embracing new challenges and opportunities, Hughes is poised to make a significant impact in his new role at TIACA.
