“GenAI: Potential and Pitfalls for Air Cargo Users”
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is currently a hot topic in the technology world, but experts caution potential air cargo users to approach its implementation with caution. During a recent session moderated by Anna Ghion from MNO AIR, AWS Amazon, speakers emphasized the importance of careful consideration when adopting GenAI in the cargo industry.
Ingrid Lee, Cathay Cargo’s head of cargo digital, advised companies to first gain a thorough understanding of GenAI before jumping on the trend bandwagon. She stressed the need to explore the technology’s limitations and potential applicability in the industry.
Elena Sanguino, RTS product manager, echoed Lee’s sentiments, urging companies not to implement technology simply because it is trending. She emphasized the importance of evaluating whether high-tech solutions like AI or GenAI are truly necessary and recommended seeking expert guidance when needed.
Sabari Ramnath, UNISYS industry expert for freight and logistics, reassured that AI should not be viewed as a threat to jobs, as historically, technological advancements have led to job shifts rather than replacements.
During the session, Ghion highlighted two potential use cases for GenAI in air cargo, including real-time negotiation feedback for sales staff and regulatory question answering. Implementing GenAI could result in improved win rates and pricing discussions, as well as a reduction in work time required to find information and an increase in accuracy.
Overall, the message to potential GenAI users in the air cargo industry is clear: approach with caution, seek expert guidance, and keep an open mind to the possibilities and limitations of the technology.
