Gebrüder Weiss Expands Logistics Facility in Budapest

Budapest / Lauterach, April 26, 2024 – Gebrüder Weiss, a leading transport and logistics company, has recently expanded its logistics facility at the Dunaharaszti location near Budapest. The new complex, covering 10,000 square meters, includes office space, a handling facility, and a high-bay warehouse. This expansion aims to provide additional storage capacity for customers, as well as to centralize Home Delivery services for the greater Budapest area. The investment for this project amounts to approximately 25 million euros.

CEO Wolfram Senger-Weiss expressed optimism about the company’s future growth, citing increasing industrial production in sectors like automotive and electrical, which is expected to drive higher demand for logistics services. Since establishing its first Central and Eastern Europe branch in Hungary in 1989, the country has become a vital hub for transporting goods between core markets in the Black Sea region, the Balkans, the Adriatic, and Western Europe. Gebrüder Weiss’ operations in Hungary are recognized for their automation and sustainable transport practices.

As part of the expansion, the existing logistics facility was modernized with state-of-the-art technology, including the new AutoStore system for automated inbound storage, material flow, and picking. This system utilizes robots to transport goods in plastic containers for efficient order fulfillment.

Moreover, the company has implemented sustainable energy practices by utilizing a photovoltaic system to power buildings and e-vehicles. This renewable energy source is used to operate e-vans for zero-emission home deliveries of furniture, consumer electronics, and appliances. This initiative helps reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 12.5 tons per month.

Gebrüder Weiss has a longstanding presence in Hungary, offering comprehensive logistics services at six locations with plans for further expansion in Győr by 2026. With a focus on efficiency, automation, and sustainability, the company remains committed to providing high-quality logistics solutions for its customers.
