“GAC Malaysia Forms JV with Uminaca for Logistics Expansion”

PRESS RELEASE

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 02 April 2024: GAC Malaysia has entered into a Joint Venture (JV) agreement with Syarikat Uminaca Sdn Bhd, a leading provider of manpower and stevedoring services in the region. This partnership aims to enhance GAC Malaysia’s logistics capabilities in East Malaysia and offer support for various development projects in the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah.

The collaboration between GAC Malaysia and Uminaca will expand the range of project logistics solutions available in East Malaysia, with a focus on the growing energy sector. This includes providing support for infrastructure projects in Sarawak such as the Lang Lebah offshore gas field, Petros projects, and the Sarawak Metro Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) project, as well as developing oil and gas facilities at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) in Sabah.

In addition to project logistics, GAC and Uminaca will also offer ship management, integrated logistics, ship agency, marine, and technical services to clients in the region. By leveraging Uminaca’s local expertise and GAC’s international presence and industry knowledge, the JV aims to deliver competitive and cost-effective shipping, logistics, and marine services in East Malaysia.

Herman Jorgensen, Managing Director of GAC Malaysia, stated, “GAC strategically partners with dynamic organizations to enhance our services in key markets globally. Our collaboration with Uminaca will bring significant value to our clients in East Malaysia.”

Awang Azrulyani, Director of Uminaca, commented, “This partnership with GAC Malaysia marks a significant milestone for Uminaca, positioning us to expand our leadership in logistics beyond East Malaysia. With our extensive experience in project logistics and oil & gas sectors, combined with GAC’s global reach, we are well-positioned to enter new markets and offer comprehensive marine and logistics solutions worldwide. This venture enhances our local competitiveness and opens doors to larger-scale projects, driving growth and development for our company.”

This JV represents the latest expansion for GAC in Malaysia and the broader region. Last year, the company opened its 14th official office in Malaysia, in Kota Kinabalu, to cater to the marine and energy sectors. GAC’s future plans include opening new offices in Kuantan and Yan as Malaysia continues to grow its energy sector and strengthen its position in global trade.
