Continued layoffs in the freight and logistics sector are affecting companies in multiple states, including California, Georgia, Illinois, New York, and Texas. Geodis, a global operator in this industry, recently announced closures of facilities in Texas, Georgia, and New York, along with job cuts at an operation in Illinois, leading to a total of 384 layoffs. Specifically, 204 workers from a distribution center in Romeoville, Illinois, are being let go as part of a corporate restructuring that is set to be completed by September 1.

In addition, Geodis is closing a warehouse distribution center in Grand Prairie, Texas, resulting in 76 job reductions to be finalized by September 16. The company is also shuttering a distribution center in McDonough, Georgia, and cutting 68 positions, as well as axing 36 workers from a facility in Endicott, New York. The layoffs in McDonough will be completed by September 19, while those in Endicott will be finished by October 20, all due to the loss of a contract with the client Casestack.

Bimbo Bakeries USA is also making cutbacks, planning to close a production and distribution facility in San Antonio and lay off 138 employees by October 5. The company is also shutting down facilities in Auburn and Olean, New York, resulting in 131 job losses. The closures, scheduled for September 6 and November 2 respectively, impact brands such as Boboli, Mrs. Baird, Sara Lee, Oroweat, Thomas, and Entenmann’s.
