Freight and Logistics Companies in Crisis: Mass Layoffs Announced

Mass layoffs are continuing in the freight and logistics industry, with companies in California, Illinois, and Michigan announcing job cuts and facility closures. DHL Supply Chain is laying off 161 workers in Joliet, Illinois due to the loss of a customer, which was not disclosed in the filing. The facility is known for distributing snacks and candies for Mars Inc. While most of the workers are expected to transition to a new employer by April 1, the layoffs are still underway.

Additionally, Hillside Logistics LLC is closing a facility in Hillside, Illinois, resulting in 136 job cuts by the end of April. The company did not provide a reason for the closure and layoffs, and did not respond to requests for comments. On the other hand, Ceva Logistics is cutting 80 workers at a distribution facility in Romulus, Michigan, due to reduced business from Ford Motor Co. This decision was made recently as Ford plans to reduce the workforce for its F-150 Lightning truck due to declining demand for electric vehicles. DXS Logistics is also laying off 80 workers in Cypress, California after deciding to discontinue operations at an Amazon facility. Similarly, Quad Logistics Services is closing a mail processing and distribution center in Bolingbrook, Illinois, resulting in 74 layoffs.

Universal Intermodal Services is laying off 42 truck drivers at its Fontana, California facility without providing a reason for the job cuts. This will be completed by mid-April. All these layoffs are part of larger industry trends and adjustments made by companies to adapt to market changes and demands.
