FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company, has partnered with Zonos, a leader in cross-border technology, to enhance the global online shopping experience by providing transparency on customs processes and charges. This collaboration allows UK and EU retailers to confidently expand their market reach while ensuring customer satisfaction through transparent and timely delivery processes.
The timing of this partnership is crucial, as a 2023 study by Juniper Research predicts a 107% increase in cross-border ecommerce transactions, reaching €3.4 trillion (£2.68 trillion) over the next five years. A 2021 Statista survey revealed that 59% of consumers expect to incur additional fees or duties upon delivery that were not previously disclosed, and 66% anticipate delayed international purchases. These statistics underscore the importance of transparency and efficiency, which this alliance aims to address.
By utilizing Zonos’ cross-border technology and FedEx’s logistics network and services, this collaboration directly addresses customer concerns by eliminating unexpected charges and reducing shipping delays. Zonos’ automated solutions inform shoppers of the total cost of their purchases, enabling them to pay all duties, taxes, and fees at checkout. This approach ensures fully prepaid shipments, expediting the customs clearance process and reducing the risk of packages being held. FedEx offers transparent delivery costs, including various options for shipments with prepaid customs charges and full tracking capabilities.
In addition, this partnership offers solutions for automating compliance with cross-border tax schemes and the EU’s Import Control System 2 (ICS2) requirements, simplifying the regulatory landscape for retailers.
