Europa Road, a leading provider of European road freight services, has recently secured an important new contract with DPD Netherlands. This partnership will see the implementation of HVO-100 fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) on new routes, replacing diesel and supporting efforts to increase sustainability in operations.
The introduction of HVO-100 fuel comes at a crucial time as EU countries and the UK are setting ambitious targets to reduce emissions in the road freight industry. DPD Netherlands, a subsidiary of GeoPost / DPD Groups, has committed to achieving net zero by 2040, a decade ahead of the climate agreement requirements. The company’s Dutch operations are on track to meet these targets, with plans to deliver emission-free in major cities by 2025.
Europa Road, as the dedicated European road freight division of Europa Worldwide Group, is taking strides towards a more sustainable operation despite challenges in the logistics industry. Stuart McKie, Regional Manager for Europa Road, details the implementation of HVO-100 on DPD movements, with a commitment to replace a significant amount of diesel fuel with the environmentally-friendly alternative.
HVO-100 fuel has been shown to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90%, particulate matter emissions by up to 84%, and nitrous oxide emissions by up to 27%. This renewable fuel solution is made from 100% raw materials and provides a direct replacement for diesel in both on-road and off-road applications.
Maurice Loef, Linehaul Director at DPD Netherlands, expresses excitement about the transition away from fossil fuels, with plans to have 50% of all linehauls running on HVO fuel by Q2 2024. The partnership between Europa Road and DPD Netherlands represents a significant step in their sustainable journey, as they collaborate with environmental experts to ensure long-lasting impact.
In addition to their partnership with Microlise for fleet management and Pledge for greenhouse gas reporting and offsetting, Europa Road’s new contract with DPD Netherlands underscores their commitment to a greener future.
