“Europa Air & Sea charts massive AN-125 airlift from UK to UAE”
Kevin Perry, a member of the Europa team, oversaw the chartering of an Antonov AN-125 for an urgent shipment of a hydraulic pump unit from the UK to UAE. The company utilized the 120-tonne capacity aircraft due to the size of the cargo and needed to obtain specialist permits for the domestic haulage leg of the journey.
The aircraft departed from East Midlands Airport in the UK on April 17 and landed in the UAE at 1.30am local time on April 18, navigating through additional complexities caused by flooding in Dubai. Europa explained that the cargo had to undergo complex customs clearance processes for export to its UAE end-user, requiring extreme timeliness.
Kevin Perry, Europa Air & Sea’s UK-based airfreight operations manager, described the project as challenging due to its scale and time constraints, exacerbated by the weather conditions. Despite these challenges, the team successfully delivered the time-critical cargo.
Nathan Lynn, general manager for Europa Air & Sea Dubai, emphasized the need for extraordinary planning and expertise from teams in both the UK and the UAE. Europa’s presence in both locations enabled them to manage the cargo seamlessly from pick-up to delivery.
