Eden Green Launches Herb Program for Texas Retailers

Eden Green Technology, a vertical indoor farm based in Texas, has recently launched an herb program with the aim of supplying fresh greenhouse herbs to retailers in Texas and Oklahoma. Established in 2017, Eden Green currently operates two 100,000-square-foot greenhouses in Cleburne, just outside the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The company has been providing greenhouse-grown romaine and butterhead lettuce to over 400 stores in the region.

CEO Eddy Badrina explained that the decision to launch the herb program was driven by customer demand. Through their distributor Robinson Fresh, feedback from both food service and retail customers indicated a greater need for herbs due to inconsistencies in the existing supply chain.

Eden Green will be growing more than 10 herb varieties, including basil, cilantro, chives, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, and thyme. This initiative makes Eden Green the first controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) firm to grow, package, and ship a full range of major herbs from a single facility.

The company plans to produce 350,000 to 400,000 pounds of fresh herbs annually from one of its greenhouses, while the other greenhouse will continue to focus on growing, packaging, and shipping leafy greens. By growing a comprehensive suite of herbs, Eden Green aims to meet the demands of large food service and retail companies who prefer a diverse herb offering.

Through their distributor Robinson Fresh, Eden Green will supply herbs to major retailers and food service companies in the U.S., including Walmart. The herbs can be grown from seeds and harvested within approximately 35 days, allowing for delivery from farm to shelf within 48 hours.

Recognizing the current complexities of the herb logistics chain, especially for large food service and retail companies sourcing herbs from various regions, Eden Green’s streamlined approach highlights the efficiency and quality of their products. With plans to build two additional greenhouses in Cleburne, the company is on track to expand its capacity to meet the growing demand for fresh produce.
