EBRD to provide €50M to Ukraine’s UZ amidst Russia aggression
To ensure continuous operations amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia, Ukrayinska Zaliznytsya (UZ), the national railway operator of Ukraine, is set to receive €50 million in liquidity support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Originally, the EBRD had planned to provide a €150 million loan to UZ for the electrification and upgrade of a section of Ukraine’s extensive railway network spanning nearly 20,000 kilometers. However, the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine has necessitated immediate financial assistance. For instance, UZ is facing heightened demand for transporting grain due to Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian sea ports.
