“DP World and Goodyear plant 702 trees to combat CO2 emissions”

PRESS RELEASE

London, United Kingdom, 20 March 2024: DP World, a leading global supply chain solutions provider, has announced the successful completion of a decarbonisation project in partnership with Goodyear. The project, named ‘Off the Road,’ involved the planting of 702 trees to offset CO2 emissions resulting from tyre purchases by DP World Southampton from Goodyear. Over the past year, these trees have been planted in Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire, as part of a reforestation effort in collaboration with Tree-Nation, a non-profit dedicated to global reforestation and climate change mitigation.

To date, the initiative has offset 121.4 tonnes of CO2, reforesting an area of 0.35 hectares with a variety of trees including Aspen, Scots Pine, and Grey Willow. Jonathan Scott, Senior Director of Engineering at DP World Southampton, expressed gratitude for the partnership with Goodyear and highlighted the significant progress made in reducing carbon emissions across Europe. He emphasized DP World’s commitment to sustainable operations, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero carbon by 2050.

Paul Bould, OTR Sales Manager for the UK, Ireland, and Benelux at Goodyear, also commended the partnership with DP World, emphasizing their shared dedication to environmental sustainability and a better future. This collaboration reflects Goodyear’s commitment to responsible practices and care for the planet.

This initiative is the latest in DP World’s efforts to decarbonize. Earlier this year, DP World Southampton increased incentives for the ‘Modal Shift Programme’ to encourage customers to shift freight from road to rail, potentially reducing up to 4,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Additionally, DP World London Gateway recently transitioned to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), becoming ‘fossil-diesel free.’

In a recent announcement, DP World received a Bronze Medal in its first EcoVadis sustainability assessment, recognizing the successful implementation of their sustainability strategy, ‘Our World, Our Future.’ This strategy focuses on creating a positive impact on people and communities worldwide.

Aside from its UK operations in Southampton and London Gateway, DP World offers logistics, forwarding, and European transport services, all of which are integrated into their global network.
