Descartes Air Messaging Streamlines MSC Air Cargo Operations

Descartes Systems Group, a software-as-a-service provider to the logistics industry, has announced that it is now offering its Descartes Air Messaging™ solution to MSC Air Cargo, the cargo airline operated by MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.

MSC Air Cargo, based in Geneva, Switzerland, has implemented the technology to enhance its air freight shipments. Descartes Air Messaging aims to standardize electronic communication between various stakeholders in the air cargo supply chain, including freight forwarders, ground handling agents, and government agencies.

Anders Matikka, the vice president of MSC Air Cargo, stated that the company is committed to improving its air cargo business through operational excellence, reliability, and transparency with customers. The Descartes solution simplifies and streamlines the exchange of shipment information between different parties with varying IT systems, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of air freight to its final destination.

Descartes Air Messaging is tailored specifically for the air cargo industry, with the goal of streamlining the process of gathering shipment information across different stakeholders with disparate data standards and connectivity requirements. The solution supports various data standards, message specifications, and delivery options to provide accurate and up-to-date information to air cargo operators.

Scott Sangster, general manager of logistics services providers at Descartes, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing innovative logistics solutions for air carriers, ground handling agents, and logistics service providers globally. Descartes’ offerings help streamline logistics operations, enhance equipment management, and ensure regulatory compliance and safety requirements in the air cargo industry.

MSC Air Cargo expanded its operations in 2022, launching commercial operations from its European gateway in Liege, Belgium. The company has also expanded its services to new cities in the Americas and Asia. In February of this year, MSC Air Cargo ended its partnership with the ECS Group to strengthen its commercial capabilities and market position.

Furthermore, MSC Air Cargo recently took delivery of its fourth Boeing 777 freighter, marking the completion of its long-term agreement with lessor Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings. The delivery of the aircraft signifies the company’s continued growth and commitment to excellence in the air cargo industry.
