DANX Carousel Urges EU Standardisation on EV Battery Transport
Time-critical logistics firm DANX Carousel is urging European regulators to establish consistent regulations regarding the transportation and storage of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Despite the European Union implementing new battery transport regulations last year, the company’s CEO, Klaus Rud Sejling, is concerned about potential discrepancies between member states leading to increased costs and confusion.
Sejling commended certain aspects of the new regulations, such as individual battery e-passports that enhance transparency in the supply chain for all involved parties. However, he questioned why variations in interpretation and practices are still present among EU nations. The CEO emphasized the importance of clarity on distinguishing between waste and recyclable batteries and proper storage methods, highlighting the potential risks associated with mishandling EV batteries compared to internal combustion engines.
DANX Carousel, a key player in EV battery logistics in the Nordics, disclosed a significant investment in researching best practices in this field to ensure compliance with regulations. With the growing number of hybrid and EV owners in Europe, the company has handled over 20,000 batteries in the Nordics alone, each weighing approximately 500 kg. To meet the rising demand, DANX Carousel is expanding its battery storage facilities in Germany and France.
The firm’s recent appointments and partnerships, including the appointment of a new chief financial officer and collaboration with ELECTRON on an electric freighter project, demonstrate its commitment to enhancing sustainability and efficiency in the EV battery supply chain.
