“ArcBest Teams Up with Nvidia for Safer Freight Handling”
Transportation and logistics provider ArcBest has announced its use of technology from Nvidia to enhance human-robot interactions in freight handling. By leveraging Nvidia’s Isaac Perceptor, ArcBest aims to bridge the gap in handling materials on warehouse floors with increased safety and efficiency. The AI technology offers precise depth perception and improved 3D occupancy mapping by capturing over 16.5 million 3D points per camera every second.
This advancement allows robots to better identify objects, track human movement, and make informed decisions to optimize their path for safer and more efficient operations. ArcBest’s autonomous stack, Vaux Smart Autonomy, now includes autonomous forklifts and reach trucks equipped with this technology, replacing less effective and costly 3D lidar sensors.
Chief Innovation Officer Michael Newcity highlighted the complexity of today’s material handling environment and the need for technological advancements to address challenges. He emphasized the shift from 3D lidar sensors to visual AI technology as a significant step forward for ArcBest. Judy McReynolds, the chairman, president, and CEO of ArcBest, expressed that this collaboration with Nvidia enhances their AI and technology capabilities to better serve customers and drive the global supply chain forward.
The announcement of this collaboration was made at Nvidia’s AI conference in San Jose, California, showcasing ArcBest’s commitment to innovation in the logistics industry.
