Air Cargo Veteran Quits CMA CGM, Joins Delta Airlines
Air freight expert Peter Penseel has resigned from his position as deputy CEO of CMA CGM Air Cargo, leaving the newly established airline without the support of a specialist in air logistics. Penseel is reportedly joining Delta Cargo as SVP and president, based in Atlanta, following the departure of Rob Walpole. Prior to his role at CMA, Penseel held positions at Ceva Logistics and Qatar Airways.
His departure is seen as a significant loss for CMA CGM, with the airline now under the leadership of Damien Mazaudier. Penseel’s appointment in January was seen as a key step towards success for the French carrier, but challenges remain in the air cargo division. CMA CGM recently ended its agreement with Air France-KLM and is looking to expand its network to the US.
Despite the setbacks, Penseel’s expertise and experience were expected to help CMA CGM’s efforts to establish a presence in the US market. The situation is described as somewhat ironic, as Penseel’s departure coincides with the airline’s plans to expand stateside.
