AAT Introduces Autonomous Electric Tractors in Hong Kong
AAT, Asia Airfreight Terminal in Hong Kong, has introduced Autonomous Electric Tractors (AETs) to its terminal to help address the manpower shortage in the industry, particularly during peak seasons. AAT is the first cargo terminal operator in Hong Kong to deploy AETs. The AETs provide uninterrupted service, can navigate adverse weather conditions, and offer high operational flexibility. These electric-powered AETs have a range of 90 km per charge and reduce emissions by up to 35% compared to conventional diesel tractors.
AAT’s chief executive Mike Chew expressed excitement about successfully deploying AETs after rigorous testing and trials. The AETs are equipped with various safety features, including high-definition cameras and lidar sensors for efficient navigation. AAT is not alone in looking to deploy AETs, as Hactl also plans to introduce the technology later this year to address staff shortages in the airport sector.
